People throw away the strangest items, sometimes things of great value or items related to a crime. Another thing they sometimes come across, very sadly, are animals that have been abandoned. If you love animals, it is the worst discovery to make. Often the animals are dead but even worse, sometimes they are alive, just left to die in the garbage.

This is what happened to William Grabill who woks in waste management. While he was working, he heard the feint sound of cries coming from a nearby dumpster. When Grabill took a look inside the dumpster he was horrified to find six newborn kittens that had been covered under chips of wood. Being an animal lover himself, Grabill was deeply saddened by the shocking discovery.

He said that he discovered the small family all huddled together in the far corner of the dumpster. He enlisted the help of a fellow co-worker. Together they managed to gather the tiny kittens and remove them from the dumpster. They were so young that each one still had their umbilical cord attached. This would mean that the baby kittens were only a day or two old.

The origin of the kittens is not clear and there was no mother in sight. It is possible that the kittens were not abandoned there by someone but could have been born their in the dumpster. The mother might have left them to go off in search of food. The other possibility is that some inhumane person did not know what to do with the litter of kittens so dumped them where and left them to die.

It would not be the first time something like that has happened. Either way, the poor defenseless little creature were left there in the dumpster, all alone. The tragic tale has a happy ending. Fortunately, they were found before it is too late and they were taken to the Sacramento SPCA. There the young kittens were cared for and as soon as they were old enough to leave, all of them were adopted into loving families.
