This Dog Is So Grateful To Be Rescued That He Snuggles New Mom Whenever He Can!

Kayla Filoon, a college student from Philadelphia was taking some dogs for a walk at the municipal animal shelter in Philly.

Little did Filoon know that very soon she would be totally smitten with one of the dogs and would be adopting him. The student at Temple University, in Philadelphia came across Russ after her walk. Russ was calmly, quietly sitting in his kennel. Russ, a young pit bull that had come to the shelter as a stray, was not in great shape. He has an itchy skin condition, an eye infection, a bleeding tail and kennel cough. He was also very underweight.

Filoon said in an email that he sat quietly watching, “as if he knew I was going to be his mommy one day.” She decided to take him to play in the shelter’s yard. Filoon gave Russ treats which he accepted gently from her and he behaved well on the leash. “And he would not stop cuddling with me,” she said. “I fell in love.” It was pretty much love at first sight for Filoon and she was soon on the phone to her mother and her friends to tell them about the dog she had become besotted with.

Not wanting to waste another day, she returned to the shelter the very next day to see her beloved Russ. She decided to take him for a drive. The two ended up at a Chick-fil-A where they shared some snacks. Russ sat on her lap as he ate his treat. Filoon says that the song “A Sky Full Of Stars” played on the radio. The lyrics seemed profound, “Cause you’re a sky full of stars, I’m gonna give you my heart…” “I actually cried,” said Filoon. “I knew it was meant to be.” When she got back to the shelter, she immediately started the adoption process.

It has been about two weeks now and the pair have been inseparable. Filoon paid her grandparents at the Jersey shore a visit and obviously Russ accompanied her. A heart-warming picture of the grateful dog cuddling beside Kayla Filoon on the couch while she was doing her homework was taken, perfectly capturing the love the two share. The photo soon went viral. Not only was it special for Filoon, who was unaware the photo was being taken, but it has also done wonders for the shelter.

It gave them great exposure, making people aware that they have a number of great pets that would make perfect companions. Russ has recovered well from his ailments, has put on weight and is as happy as can be.
